Tweet Character Counter
Counts the way X counts — links are 23, emoji are 2 — so "280" here means 280 there.

Free accounts: 280 characters. Premium: up to 25,000 — but posts under 280 still get full timeline display.
Character Limits: Questions & Answers
How many characters can a tweet (X post) have?
280 characters on a free account. X Premium subscribers can write up to 25,000 characters, but anything past 280 gets collapsed behind a "Show more" link in the timeline — so 280 is still the practical limit for reach.
Why does X count my post differently than my text editor?
Because X weights characters: every link counts as exactly 23 characters no matter how long it is, and most emoji, CJK characters, and special symbols count as 2. A "260-character" draft in Word can be over the limit on X. This counter applies the same weighting X does.
Do @mentions and hashtags count?
Yes — @mentions and #hashtags count at face value, letter by letter. The only special case is links (always 23) — and in replies, the @names of people you're replying to don't count.
What is the best tweet length for engagement?
Short posts win on average — studies repeatedly land in the 70–120 character range for the highest engagement rates. Whitespace and a single clear idea beat a wall of text. Long-form has its place, but earn it: hook first, depth after the fold.
Writing the post is half the job — posting it at the right time is the other half.
